I never knew anyone on my father’s side of the family. When I asked questions, they were dismissed. I was told my paternal grandmother was dead throughout my childhood, until my father was called out of town for her funeral when I was 20. He returned with a rich photo album from his childhood, and, for years I have been trying to piece together his life and those of my unknown relatives. When I struggle to fill in the blanks I create narratives based on secrets and lies: bits of information overheard in dark hallways, scraps of stories shared then quickly hushed. Ghosts is a series of images fabricated in a vacuum of disinformation, in an attempt to create a family history.
